Dynamic Characteristics of Accelerator-Driven Subcritical Reactor With Self-Adapting Multi-Mode Core Few-Group Constants

نویسندگان

چکیده

In this study, the dynamic characteristics of accelerator-driven subcritical reactor (ADSR) under beam transients with high heterogeneity neutron flux in time-space are investigated. Multi-mode core few-group constants generated by three kinds fluxes: steady state ADSR, λ-eigenvalue fundamental wave, and α-eigenvalue wave. The proposed overcome limitation single constant two-step method that cannot consider variation density energy spectrum time space. Compared to existing different operating conditions, self-adapting multi-mode exhibit higher accuracy case following two modes: steady-state mode ADSR starting process trip condition. Overall, research provides useful insights on kinetics can boost development ADSRs.

Study on Neutronics Design of an Accelerator Driven Subcritical Reactor

Thorium fueled Accelerator Driven Subcritical Reactors have been proposed as a more comprehensive alternative to conventional nuclear reactors for both energy production and for burning radioactive waste. Several new classes have been added by the authors to the GEANT4 simulation code, an extension which allows the state-of-the-art code to be used for the first time for nuclear reactor critical...

Neutron Spallation Studies for an Accelerator Driven Subcritical Reactor

Nuclear power production can benefit from the development of more comprehensive alternatives for dealing with long-term radioactive waste. One such alternative is an accelerator-driven subcritical reactor (ADSR) which has been proposed for both energy production and for burning radioactive waste. Here we investigate the effects of the size of the ADSR spallation target on the total neutron yiel...

Predicting the Cost of Unplanned Shutdowns of Power Stations: An Accelerator-Driven Subcritical Reactor Case Study

The growing penetration of intermittent power generation technologies is increasing the importance of operating efficient electricity balancing mechanisms. This paper presents a model for analysing the financial cost to an electricity supplier when a power generator unexpectedly instantaneously shuts down, in the context of the UK National Grid. The simulation probabilistically selects historic...

Hedging Against Technology Risks of the Accelerator System of a First-of-a-Kind Accelerator-Driven Subcritical Reactor

Demonstrating the generation of electricity with Accelerator-Driven Subcritical Reactor (ADSR) technology will incur substantial financial risk both from traditional reactor construction uncertainties and new technology uncertainties such as the reliability of the accelerator system. The sensitivity of the economic value of ADSRs to the reliability of the accelerator system is assessed. The eco...

A Comparison of Some Neutronics Characteristics of Critical Reactors and Accelerator Driven Subcritical Systems

After a general introduction of characteristics of possible critical reactor systems (CRS) and accelerator driven systems (ADS) it is proposed only to compare similar systems, based on the same design principles.
